Important Information about Procedures for Opening a New Account. To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens an account. What this means for you: When you open an account we will ask for your name, street address, date of birth and other information that will allow us to identify you. We may also ask to see your driver’s license or other identifying documents.- All new accounts will be verified through ChexSystems® and are subject to approval. Member must be 18 years and older and accounts with CU SoCal must be in good standing. Account must use a SSN or ITIN, not an EIN. A $2 monthly paper statement fee will be applied to the primary savings account for Members ages 18-63 who are not enrolled in eDocuments. If funds are unavailable in the primary savings account, the fee will be transferred to that account from the secondary savings, checking, or money market account. For Members without a primary savings account, the fee will be applied to the checking account or money market account.
- All CU SoCal Debit and Credit Card purchases qualify with the following exceptions: cash advances; balance transfers; convenience checks; quasi-cash (purchases that are directly convertible to cash such as casino gaming chips, money orders, wire transfers, travelers checks); finance charges, fees, and credit insurance; purchases made by or for a business; unauthorized/fraudulent transactions; debit card purchases for less than $1.50; and credit card purchases for less than $.50. Qualified debit purchases will result in one (1) point for every five dollars ($5) spent, rounded at each increment of $1.50. Qualified credit purchases will result in one (1) point for every one ($1) dollar spent, rounded to the nearest dollar. Bonus points are occasionally awarded for merchant specific and CU SoCal special promotions. All transactions and points are subject to verification. The point balance is the total of points awarded, less points that are deducted for returns and adjustments. If a transaction is subject to a billing dispute, the point value of the transaction may be deducted from the point balance during the dispute period. If the transaction is reinstated, the points will be reinstated.
- Benefits are available to personal checking accounts and their primary accountholder and joint accountholder(s) subject to the terms and conditions set forth in the Guide to Benefit and/or insurance documents for the applicable Benefits. Some Benefits require authentication, registration and/or activation. Benefits are not available to a “signer” on the account who is not an accountholder or to businesses, clubs, trusts, organizations and/or churches and their members, or schools and their employees/students.
